The Diaspora Experience

Where Current Life Meets Culture and History.

Hi! I am Meghna and I created ghar local to feel a little more connected to my heritage. It's an interesting position to be in, growing up in North America but being so tied to my roots in India. I use to visit India all the time growing up, fascinated by spices, the colours, the culture and the warm embrace of family. There's nothing like going home, and then leaving to go back... home.

Being so passionate to be Canadian and equally as passionate to be Indian. How do I explain to my cousins in India that I bring mithai and show my classmates and colleagues how to tie a sari when Diwali comes around every year. How do I explain why I love eating poutine after crawling down Ossington or sitting on a patio, drinking Aperol when the sun comes out?

As I grow up, I realize I live in a beautiful space between the two, Indian with a North American identity, and North American with an Indian imprint. To be of these two cultures is to be a perfect water colour blend between the East and West. I love it here, and I love meeting people that feel this as deeply as I do.

Welcome to ghar local, stay awhile, connect a bit and live loudly.

With love,
Meghna

A taste of home, locally.
